Load balancing

Two connections working, not one working and one waiting

A backup link that sits idle until disaster is money spent for nothing on most days. Load balancing puts two or more connections to work at once — more capacity for the office, automatic failover when one fails, and the phone system pinned to whichever link is cleanest right now.

  • Capacity of two links on ordinary days
  • Failover on the bad days
  • Voice pinned to the cleanest link
  • Configured on business routers we manage

Why choose us

More capacity

Two NBN services from different carriers, or fibre plus NBN, shared across the office.

Built-in failover

One link fails and the other carries on. Nobody in the office notices.

Voice on the best path

3CX and Teams traffic uses the link with the lowest latency and loss, measured continuously.

Different carriers, fewer outages

Two links on two carriers rarely fail together. We choose them for that.

Monitored

We watch both links and tell you when one has been down.

Frequently asked questions

What happens to our phones if the internet goes down?

With 4G/5G backup on the router, the connection fails over within seconds and the phone system, EFTPOS and cloud apps carry on. Without it, a hosted phone system falls back to its own rules — ringing mobiles or taking messages — until the link returns. We recommend backup for any site where the phones matter.

VPN or SD-WAN — what is the difference?

A VPN is an encrypted tunnel between two points over the internet, and it is the right answer for two or three offices with decent links. SD-WAN puts an intelligent edge at each site that uses every link it has, fails over between them and prioritises voice — the right answer when sites have more than one connection, when call quality between sites matters, or when there are enough locations that tunnels have become a job.

Whatever you know — "an old on-prem PBX", "Telstra mobiles and no IT support", "not sure" is fine.
What is not working today, or what you are trying to achieve. A sentence or two is plenty.
