3CX + Cliniko
Know which patient is calling before reception picks up
Allied health reception is a phone job. With 3CX connected to Cliniko, the caller's name shows on the handset and screen as the phone rings, so reception greets the patient by name and has the record open — and nothing is written into the clinical file unless you ask for it.
- Patient name on the handset and screen as the call rings
- Cliniko record opens for known callers
- Click-to-dial from Cliniko
- Read-only by default — no writing to clinical records
What it does
3CX and Cliniko, call by call
Patient lookup
The calling number is matched against Cliniko patients and the name is shown on reception handsets and the mobile app.
Record pop
The patient's Cliniko page opens as the call rings, so appointments and notes are in front of reception.
Click-to-dial
Ring patients back from Cliniko without keying the number.
Read-only by design
Caller identification does not write to the patient file. If you want calls logged, that is a deliberate choice we configure with you.
Multiple practitioners and sites
Works across a group practice, with call flows per site or per practitioner queue.
Privacy first
Hosted in Australia, on our own infrastructure, with access limited to the reception users you nominate.
Built for how a practice actually runs
A busy morning at reception is a queue of calls that all sound the same. Seeing the name and the next appointment before answering shortens every call and stops the wrong record being opened. Pair it with a reception queue, overflow to a second desk, and an after-hours message that tells patients what to do — all in 3CX.
Privacy obligations
We treat the Cliniko connection as read-only unless you decide otherwise, keep the integration on Australian infrastructure, and limit it to nominated users. Our trust centre covers how we handle data if your practice manager wants the detail.

Common questions about the Cliniko integration
Does this put call information into patient records?
Not by default. Identification is read-only. If you want calls logged against the patient, we configure that deliberately with you and document what is written.
We also use HotDoc for bookings — does that matter?
No. HotDoc writes bookings into Cliniko; the phone integration reads Cliniko. They coexist.
